Powerchair football is a unique sport and one of the few team sports for powerchair users. We are open to all ages, all genders and all abilities with different levels for all different athletes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you are competitive or just want to have fun in a friendly and supportive environment, we have opportunities for everyone to take part.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t even need to have your own sports powerchair to take part. NSWPFA has a fleet of loan chairs for new athletes, giving everyone a taste of how the sport can be played.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Development Pathway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Like any sport, skill development is a key element in powerchair football. As people grow as athletes, we also look to continue this growth and adjust what our athletes do accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our NSWPFA Development Pathway features 4 different stages – Come and Try, Skill Acquisition Program (SAP), the NSWPFA Championship and the NSWPFA Premiership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come and Try<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For new athletes who want to see if powerchair football is the right sport for them, our Come and Try days (previously known as Development days) take place on the first Saturday of each month – 5 times throughout the season. These sessions focus on the most basic of skills such as chair control and basic ball skills. This is the entry level to the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skill Acquisition Program (SAP)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

NSWPFA is launching our Skill Acquisition Program in 2023. SAP will provide dedicated skills training on a weekly basis, giving our athletes the fundamentals required to play powerchair football and have fun while doing it. SAP sessions will also include a weekly match for athletes to put the skills they have gained into practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our coaching team will focus on different skills each week, including ball control, passing, shooting and match awareness. By the end of the season, we hope our athletes will be able to take their game to the next level. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Championship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our Championship competition has gone from strength to strength since its inception 3 seasons ago. The 2024 NSWPFA Championship competition was the most competitive season yet, providing a launching pad for those looking to take their game to new limits. This highly competitive format sees each club fielding a team in full length matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Championship players are also eligible to take part in Premiership matches when clubs need to rely on their squads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Premiership<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As athletes progress through Championship and gain more competitive match experience, they can eventually earn some minutes for their Premiership sides. This is the highest level of competition at NSWPFA level and features the best athletes in the division, including Australian Poweroos representatives.

Our clubs can also choose to run their own training sessions, with most clubs training during the week before, during and after the season. With such a competitive competition, training can give teams and players that extra boost.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I want to play! What do I do next?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

New players are always welcome to attend our monthly Come and Try sessions – the first Saturday of the month – to get a taste of powerchair football. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
