Athletes
If you want to play powerchair football or know someone who does, we are always excited to provide opportunities to new players. Powerchair football is one of the few team sports for powerchair users, giving both a physical and mental outlet.
Our development pathway sees all players progress from our development squad and through to Reserve Grade for those with potential. For the most promising athletes, promotion to a Premier League team is possible.
For new players, we recommend you attend one of our development days – the first Saturday of the month during the season – or one of our pre-season Come and Try days. Signing up is easy, and you can do it via the ‘I want to play’ button.
Coaches
As with any sport, coaching is vital to player development. Our development coaches focus on teaching the basics like chair control and ball skills. This is the entry point to our sport, and a strong foundation is the best introduction for all players.
Our Reserve Grade athletes receive more dedicated coaching at a skill and tactical level, with a much greater focus on how to play the game within a structure. This can include positioning and what to do at set piece opportunities like free kicks and corners.
We are always keen to add to our coaching pool, so please reach out and we’ll find ways to add you to our program. This might be with our development team or through one of our clubs as an assistant. We are also looking to develop our own coaching course dedicated to powerchair football. Register your interest here!
Referees
Without the referees, powerchair football like any other sport just doesn’t happen. We are always looking for new linespersons and centre officials to add to our referee pool at both Reserve Grade and Premier League level.
If you are a football referee and want to get involved in a new and exciting version of the beautiful game, you can get in touch with Football NSW and sign up. We can help put you in touch, so please leave a message signalling your interest.
Our referees also have the ability to officiate at the Australian Powerchair Football Club Championships, while the top referees in the region also have the chance to officiate at international level.
Volunteers and Officials
There are plenty of tasks we require assistance with on match days. From score keeping, to setting up and retrieving balls during matches, there is always something to be done on weekends.
In the current climate, we also need assistance with temperature checks and QR Code check-ins on arrivals. Any assistance frees up committee members and allows them to assist in other ways. With many of us also parents, carers and support workers, this often means preparing our children to play, so any extra assistance is always appreciated.
Sponsorship
The NSWPFA Season is funded through player and club membership fees, which assist with payments for court hire, equipment and referee fees.
There are plenty of opportunities for sponsors to get involved. We are looking for sponsors for NSWPFA and are eager to work with you to explore the exposure we can provide. From advertising boards on match days to sponsoring individual players, we’re interested in looking at ways to get partners involved.
