The Sydney derbies lived up to their reputation with goals galore, while the Jets and Hills went toe to toe to with the chance to cement themselves on top of the tables.
The Sydney FC Powerchair Team Reserves flew out of the blocks, with goals to Shannon Anlezark and Mitchell Albert in the opening 10 minutes giving the sky blues a solid lead at the half. The Wanderers found a response to open the second half through a clever strike from Jye Mokluk before the team in blue regained control, thumping home three more goals including a hat-trick to Albert and brace to Anlezark, running away with the win.
It was the opposite story in the Premier League, with a calmly taken opening goal from the red and black’s Daniel O’Brien at the end of a crisp passing move opening the scoring. A second to Ben Keyte gave the Wanderers the ascendancy, but a composed response saw the sky blues hold their own for the middle half of the match. A few missed chances meant the Wanderers maintained the advantage, wearing down their opponents and pouncing with goals in the final 10 to Keyte and Andrew Kim cementing the 3 points.
The goals refused to flow in the Hills and Jets matches to the same extent as the previous games. It took until the second half for a goal to come, a Ryan Seck corner being deflected in off the defenders early on before Hills surged late but to no avail, handing Newcastle a convincing lead on top of the division.
With the Newcastle Jets Powerchair Football Club cutting Hills United Football Club Premier League lead to 2 points the previous round, the re-match shaped up as a key match. It was the team in yellow who struck first, forcing their opponents onto their back foot before Abdullah Karim squeezed a pass between defenders from a tight angle to find Jacob Cross for a tap-in. The Jets found themselves down by more when a rapid Hills passing move after a Jets’ goal kick resulted in Karim scoring. Eventually the Jets found their groove, controlling more of the possession but unable to find their way past a resolute Chris Turnbull in Hills’ goal. The result sees Hills regain a 5 point advantage with one more encounter between the two sides remaining.
