The Newcastle Jets Powerchair Football Club did the double with wins in both grades, while the Western Sydney Wanderers Powerchair Team and Hills United Football Club traded wins in the earlier matches.
A determined Wanderers outfit set about working over a winless Hills Reserve Grade team, but had little to show for it at the half. A few tweaks at half time saw a renewed effort from the red and black, leaving Hills struggling to match their intensity. Jaxon Taylor made the Wanderers’ dominance count with a deft winner, their second of the campaign.
The Hills Premier League side looked to make amends in Joshua Ryan’s first grade debut, with a run away solo effort to Abdullah Karim the first, before two quick set piece goals to end the half gave the red and black a lot of work to do. Karim completed his hat-trick to open the second half, a clever finish from an accurate Suffield delivery.
A confident Newcastle Reserve side looked to extend their lead on top of the table, but a dogged Sydney FC Powerchair Team made them work for their efforts for three quarters of the match. Riley Brown found room for a strike next to the post with 10 minutes to go, before Rumeth Herath cleverly deflected a Ryan Seck clearance into the goal to seal the 3 points.
A back and forth first half saw a similar effort in the Premier League, but a well worked Jets passing play was finished off by captain Dimitri Liolio-Davis to take a one-goal lead into half time. Eventually the Jets’ passing wore down the sky blues, with more passing leading to a quick brace to Chris Hastas and another to Ryan Seck, with goals from open play cutting through the defence.
