Powerchair League Recap – Rd 7 2021

A repeat of the previous round’s matches saw the Newcastle Jets once again do the double to remain in strong positions in both divisions, with goals aplenty on offer.

In easily the match of the weekend, the Newcastle Jets Powerchair Football Club took on the Sydney FC Powerchair Team in a reserve grade encounter that really heated up after half time. The Jets took a one goal lead into the second half courtesy of Ryan Seck smartly finishing a rebound. The sky blues found a reply thanks to Fletcher Ball, set up smartly by Shannon Anlezark from the sideline, finishing strongly at the far post, but the Jets were not giving up the 3 points. A pinpoint cross from Rumeth Herath found Molly Boland for a back guard finish, sealing a hard fought victory.

Despite an early goal to Chris Hastas and the Jets, it was an even affair in the Premier League match between the Jets and sky blues until the Jets found their rhythm going into half time. A quick-fire double to Ryan Seck, neatly set up from the sideline from Dimitri Liolio-Davis and from a cross from Chris Hastas, saw the lead instantly triple. A brace to Hastas and hattrick to Seck rounded out the result early in the second half, but the sky blues scored a long-range effort through Shannon Anlezark to at least trouble the scorers in a 5-1 domination from the Jets.

In what was very much a game of two halves, the Wanderers Reserves found an early goal from a well executed sideline, with Daniel O’Brien finishing with a smart cross court finish from a Matt Malllows past. The red and black couldn’t add to their lead, with the Hills United side copying the Wanderers with a sideline play of their own, finished smartly by Samir Eshani from the Josh Ryan cross to see the points shared.

An early Abdullah Karim goal from the corner squeezed between keeper and post to give Hills United Football Club an early Premier League lead, but in a cagey first half, no further goals were added before the half. Hills flew out of the blocks to open the second half, with Karim converting from the penalty spot and Chris Suffield pouncing on a loose ball to cement the 3 points for the team in yellow.
