Powerchair League Recap – Rd 9 2021

The Newcastle Jets Powerchair Football Club did the double over Hills United Football Club in both grades over the weekend, cutting the gap at the top of the table in Premier League and extending their unbeaten Reserve Grade run to 8 matches.

In what was a mostly even contest, it was the Jets’ Jake Vidakovic who found the winner for the Reserve Grade side. Late in the first half, the ball spilled into the Hills’ box, and after a tussle for possession it was Vidakovic who dribbled the ball over the line. Despite their best efforts, a composed Jets defence held firm to keep the winless Hills team at bay.

In the top grade, the match was only decided with the final kick of the match. With both teams pushing for a winner late on, a Hills passing move came undone thanks to Newcastle’s precision in their counter attack. Picking off a pass out wide, Ryan Seck immediately crossed to Chris Hastas who fired past a stranded goal keeper, winning the game and cutting Hills’ lead on top of the table to 2 points before the whistle blew. Hills will rue their missed chances while the Jets will go into next week’s rematch full of confidence.

Unfortunately Sydney FC were forced to forfeit their matches over the weekend, awarding the Wanderers the 3 points in both grades.

Round 9 Results:

Reserve Grade:
Newcastle Jets 1-0 Hills United

Premier League:
Newcastle Jets 1-0 Hills United
