Last summer marked a special milestone for the NSW Powerchair Football Association (NSWPFA) with the launch of our very first Powerchair Football Summer Series.
Held across October to December at the Concord Oval Recreation Centre, the Summer Series brought athletes from across the NSW Powerchair Football community together for a relaxed and enjoyable off-season competition. Players from our SAP, Championship and Premiership divisions all took part, creating a fantastic mix of experience, energy and friendly rivalry.
Across the six rounds of football, the court was filled with great matches, plenty of teamwork and some impressive skills on display. It was also wonderful to see experienced players helping guide newer athletes, with the series providing a welcoming environment for people who were trying Powerchair Football for the first time.
The competition wouldn’t have been possible without the support of a number of football organisations and clubs who helped make the Summer Series happen. A big thank you goes to Football Canterbury, Blacktown District Soccer Football Association, North West Sydney Football, Northern Suburbs Football Association, Sydney FC Foundation and Hills United Football Club for their support.
The series finished with an exciting final round, with Sydney FC Powerchair Team and Northern Tigers FC battling it out for the inaugural NSWPFA Summer Series title.
More than anything, the Summer Series was about bringing our community together — giving players more time on the court, building friendships and continuing to grow Powerchair Football in NSW.
Following the success of the first Summer Series, NSWPFA is excited to keep building on the momentum and creating even more opportunities for athletes of all skill levels to get involved in this incredible sport.
